Weigh in Report for May 31st

Guys, I am really at a total loss of what I am doing wrong. I gained yet again this week. I was up 1.2 pounds today. So according to WW my total boot camp loss was 3.8 pounds.

Here are the basics of what I am doing. I am eating about 1200-1300 calories per day. Exercising about 5 times a week (40 minutes) at a moderate to high intensity. I know that I am really working my body hard as there isn't a day this month that something wasn't sore. I am drinking my water. I am eating mainly core foods (hello egg whites!) and very little processed food or sugars.

I talked with a dietician friend and her thought was that I may not be eating enough calories. She was unfamiliar with how to factor in all the exercise but at my weight she thought 1500 calories should be my minumum. She thinks my body may have gone into starvation mode.

So what to do this week? I'm going to go back to my normal WW points. The thing is, I know that eating more is going to give me a gain next week. I just don't understand why my body has to be so complicated.

Today at the WW meeting we worked on winning outcomes and set goals for 4th of July. I find it really hard to set a goal when I don't feel like I am in control of this process.

Branda, look at all of the inches you are losing. Often in weight loss you don't lose both weight and inches at the same time. I know that seeing the pounds fall off makes you feel good and accomplished but I challenge you to look at the entire picture of your life and the changes you are making. I also felt like boot camp was a bit extreme and totally agree with the dr. that you may be starving yourself. Keep working out, continue to watch your food intake and continue to take your measurments!!!! You are on track, I wish you could read this blog as an outsider (like I do) because you would be so impressed with yourself and the changes/accomplishments you have made and continue to make.

Love ya!

Brenda, as Heather said, I think the boot camp was a bit extreme and I thought this might be the end result. A program like that is a quick fix. I think some things were good about it but WW and moving your body 5 days a week is the REAL thing. That's the lifestyle change and you can't help but lose weight and become fitter.
No Ribbons today.:( Maybe tomorrow!

I went on a boot camp (or fat camp) last year and it *really* messed up my metabolism -- I had several weeks of gain after that.

Quite often a very extreme boot camp regime of severely restricted calories and MEGA exercise overload leads the body to go into starvation mode.

I expect that, for you, continuing to eat only 1200 - 1300 calories a day has KEPT your body in starvation mode.

After my experience last year I am never going to do a boot camp again. I have come to realise that "slow and steady" changes is the only way to win the race.

best wishes,
Sharon
